About the Event
We'll be travelling to the town of 5000 temples, home to UNESCO World Heritage site : Great Living Chola Temples. The site includes three great 11th- and 12th-century Temples: the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikondacholisvaram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram.
In this sacred journey, we also step back into history and discover the opulence and rustic charm of the Chola Dynasty through the culture - food, music, art of Tanjavur and Kumbakonam. Combining this experience of the Tamizh way of life with yoga is befitting. We will have 2 sessions of 90 minutes each of Hatha, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. The sessions will be interwoven with visits to rural Kumbakonam, temple tours as well as experiencing the craft of the region.
Our home for this duration will be the magnificent InDeco Hotel in Swamimalai, which in it's progression from a family home in a village to a resort, continued to honour and respect the village life and traditions. You can get a glimpse of the rustic life with lush green landscapes and friendly locals. All rooms at the hotel bear the insignia of traditional Chola architecture & Tanjorean ethnicity.
Enjoy delicious south indian recipes, carefully created using traditional and long lost recipes, made in tradiiotnal utensils. The hotel prides iteself on restoring and reviving traditional techniques.
Experience the rare simplicity of village life alongside the historic opulence of South India’s regal past, deepen your yoga practice and soak in the sacredness of the region.
